The EORTC STBSG provides a platform for international collaborators to discuss scientific topics in the treatment and diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma. Following the International Scientific Symposium to the group's 25th Anniversary at Aarhus in 2001, this 2nd scientific symposium in Mannheim will focus on the three major topics

• Current standards in the treatment of GIST
• The potential role of antiangiogenic agents in sarcoma treatment
• Diagnostic tools to select patients to targeted therapies

We intend to discuss the results of translational and basic research as well as the results of clinical research to optimize trials according to new data. Two lectures are scheduled on friday evening tofocus on the setting up of a network of research institutes and to provide a view from the industry about development and launch of new drugs. Saturday is reserved for the group meeting of EORTC STBSG.

The venue will be the KUNSTHALLE presenting excellent exhibitions being located centrally in Mannheim. A theater in the basement will be used for the symposium and a forum amidst paintings and sculptures will serve for reception and lectures. Hotels and train station are within walking distance, Mannheim airport is 10 minutes and Frankfurt International Aiport is within 1 hour.
